Winter 2010 Classes being taught by Club members:

BIRD CARVING - Beginner and Intermediate - New Winter 2010
Carve and paint a Goldfinch. Bring to class a short-bladed carving knife, or purchase from instructor for $12. Other items needed will be discussed in class. Wood blank, eyes, leg materials, and paint will be provided for a $20 fee payable to the instructor. No previous experience necessary. Registrants must be at least age 18 or accompanied by an adult.  Cost payable to the museum:  $50.

Perinton Recreation(Turk Hill Rd) - A beginner/intermediate bird carving class, from
Sept. 22 to Nov. 10, 2009 on Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Cost $70 including blank, eyes, paint, and leg materials. The subject is also a rustic style Red -belled Woodpecker mounted on a post or log.


BIRD CARVING - CARVERS COMPLETION - New Winter 2010                               Bring in your work in progress and complete it under the watchful eye of our master carver.  Cost payable to the museum $20.

BIRD CARVING - INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED - Stay tuned for Spring 2010     This course is to inspire carvers of wooden bird sculptures to advance their interest and understanding of the subject. The subject is a Killdeer with the choice of either a contemporary decoy or a decorative, broken wing style.  You'll be proud of the art piece you create! A $30 fee payable to the instructor covers supplies.

Robin Salsbury - Winter 2010:   Will be teaching the carving and painting of a 1/3 size Tundra Swan.  This is a beginner to intermediate level class but advanced carvers can incorporate more challenges.  The class is being taught at Irondequoit High School from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in Room 1144, enter North entrance #3, turn right first hallway.  The 7 Tuesday night sessions begin on September 22, 2009.

Fee:  $79 plus a $15 materials fee (payable to the instructor at the first class) for a wood blank, glass eyes, and paint.  Call 336-3014 or see http://www.westirondequoit.org/community for information or to register. 

Frank Stirpe:   If you are interested in a class taught by one of the very best carvers/painters of the decoy, register for this class taught by Frank!  He will be running two classes at Webster Schroeder High School starting on September 15th.  Subject is a Northern Shovler Drake.  The carving will be taught in the first 10 week class and the painting taught in the second 10 week class. Information can be found on the Webster Schools Community Education website. Al Adaskin - Stay tuned for Spring 2010 class.  Fall was a 1/3 size Mallard hen with her head turned in the preening positon.  Classes are at Greece Apollo High School at 750 Maiden Lane from 7 to 9:30 PM for six Wednesdays starting on September 30 and ending on November 4, 2009.  Bass wood cutouts, eyes, and acrylic paints will be provided.  The project will be taught as a "smoothie" but students may detail with their own equipment if desired.  Call 965-1010 to register and see www.AdaskinAvianArts.com for further registration options.
